Basic Agenda
Actual topic presentations times will vary by site.
8-8:30 am Registration & refreshments
8:30-9 am Welcome & Local Items of Interest
9-10 am Right Plant? Nope, Try This!
After planting, some trees & shrubs become a problem rather than an asset due to pest issues, being invasive or poor site adaptability. What common landscape plants should we stop planting in Nebraska and why? What are some alternative plants we might use instead?
10:15 - 11:15 am Common Pest & Abiotic Problems in Turf
Bugs, fungi and all sorts of other influences can negatively impact turf. Sometimes it can be hard to figure out the exact cause(s) of the symptoms of problematic grass. After all, turf can’t talk and let us know where it hurts. We’ll cover various agents that produce undesirable turf appearance and function.
11:15-12:00 pm Problem Identification Contest
12:00-12:45 pm Lunch
1-2 pm Seven Common Customer Problems
Customers often lack basic knowledge about what landscapes & trees need to thrive, including water (how much & how often), soil quality and fertilizer. They focus on minor issues, but completely misunderstand they are drowning (or frying) their plants. They chose plants at a big box store not well adapted to Nebraska’s climate and apply herbicides poorly resulting in damage or death. We’ll discuss the most common problems and how to educate clientele on better practices to create and maintain a thriving landscape.
2:15-3:15 pm Topic #4
