Basic Agenda

Actual topic presentations times will vary by site.

8-8:30 am Registration & refreshments

8:30-9 am Welcome & Local Items of Interest

9-10 am Tree & Turf Interactions & Common Stressors
It’s a given – trees and turf often co-exist together in the landscape.  Unfortunately, due to a lack of homeowner awareness and previous misguided maintenance activities, trees and turf often suffer.  The most common as well as the sometimes forgotten influencers will be highlighted, as well as steps to help turf and ornamentals recover from injury.

10:15 - 11:15 am Balancing Pollinators and Pesticides
Insecticides are a useful tool in any management kit, but what kills pest insects can also put beneficial bugs at risk. Learn how to evaluate plant damage situations to decrease pesticide use and even encourage predatory insects and other bugs to reduce the need for chemical applications.

11:15-12:00 pm Problem Identification Contest

12:00-12:45 pm Lunch

1-2 pm Big Statements, All Year: Containers That Wow
Learn how to build containers that wow clients and thrive through the seasons by blending bold design, smart plant selection, and plenty of creativity to turn every pot into a small-but-mighty masterpiece. Get ready for fresh ideas and inspirations that will make every container a true showstopper.

2:15-3:15 pm The Basics of Soil Testing for Nutrients, Physical Properties and Soil Life
Learn the fundamental soil properties, how they relate to plant growth, and how we can test for them. We will describe on-site and laboratory soil tests, including lab tests for soil nutrients and organic matter. The session will conclude with how to amend and improve soil properties based on soil test results.
